Everything begins with a word from God.
In the fall of 1989, John and Lisa Carter were praying about God's will for their lives and future ministry. Separately, they heard the Holy Spirit speak the same thing in their hearts, "Get a room, teach the Word, and I will fill it..." God began to form in their hearts a vision for a church that would transcend all traditional barriers of age, race, culture, denomination, and locality. A church built on the uncompromised teaching of the Bible, providing an atmosphere for a genuine experience with the Holy Spirit and authentic fellowship with one another.
How Abundant Life Christian Center began
In January of 1990, eleven people met in Pastor John and Lisa's apartment for the first service of then, Abundant Life Christian Fellowship. With little more than a guitar, 10 borrowed folding chairs, a cassette player, and a pulpit made from a microwave cart, God kept His word and filled their little living room with His Presence. Two decades and 6 rooms later, Abundant Life Christian Center now ministers to over 3000 members through four services and dozens of outreaches every week. People come from all over the central NY region -- Binghamton to Watertown, Rochester to Rome. With over 35 different nationalities represented in our congregation, the original vision of a church of "all nations" has come to pass. Our central ministry campus has an 80,000 sq ft facility that sits on 91 acres of property in East Syracuse, NY.
Abundant Life is a church that, above all, emphasizes the teaching of God's Word -- this is the solid foundation upon which we build ministry of prayer, worship, discipleship, pastoral care, serving and outreach.
Our passion has been to take the life-changing message of Abundant Life through Jesus Christ to multitudes of people locally, nationally and internationally. Our ministry seeks to make the Word of God available through local church ministry, dedicated pastoral care, discipleship training, media ministry (TV, CDs, web and radio), and deep commitment to local and world outreaches.
