The General Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in the general ledger and applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate internal control systems are established.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide accounting support to the Controller including automating functions whenever possible.
Adheres to all accounting policies and procedures and works within the established system of internal controls.
Compute, classify, and record account transactions to keep financial records accurate, timely and complete.
o Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.
o Establish inter-department transfer limits, check encumbrances and cash disbursements for accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare the following reports and statements as necessitated regularly:
o General and standard journal entries.
o Income, cash flow, and balance sheet statements.
o Assist with month end close, including account and bank reconciliations.
o Cost reports and various other accounting statements and reports.
o Provide interpretation of results as appropriate.
Prepare federal, state and other regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with established guidelines; keep informed of government regulations and policies affecting the organization’s finances and accounting procedures.
o Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets and/or expenditures as appropriate.
